This oil on canvas from 2012 -2014 was painted as part of my residency to Coventry Cathedral. It has never been exhibited as sadly they had ( to my surprise!) a whole change in management during the Jubilee Year that I was Artist in Residence. I am tremendously fond of this piece which still resides in my studio. The stained glass windows fragmented down via sunbeams all around the gleaming floor of the Cathedral. It was midday with a packed congregation and dignitaries such as Anne, Princess Royal, Dr. Rowan Williams Archbishop of Canterbury and a stream of Canons dressed in all their finery... It was reminiscent of a magnificent slow moving train, the calm illuminated by the flaming red sandstone cathedral ruins burning in a crystal blue sky. A magical and unforgettable day!
